Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember, but my journey into nightlife started long before I stood behind the DJ booth. I began from the ground up — working as a bartender helper in Finland. At first, I was simply assisting behind the bar, watching how nightlife worked: the energy, the people, the connection, and the movement of the room. Over time, I became more curious. I learned how to mix drinks, make cocktails, work with guests, and understand what makes people feel comfortable, excited, and connected in a nightlife environment. That experience became the foundation of everything I do today.
As I grew into a bartender and eventually had my own bar section, I started seeing nightlife from a wider perspective. It was not only about drinks or music. It was about atmosphere, timing, and knowing what people wanted before they even asked for it. At the same time, another creative side of me started to grow. I became involved in graphic design, creating flyers, visuals, and promotional material for nightclub events. Later, I moved into photography and video, bringing photographers into the clubs before eventually becoming the one behind the camera myself. Through the Night People Group in Finland, I had the chance to work across different venues, capture events, create visuals, and understand how nightlife was built from every angle.
Me and the people around me began organizing our own events. We were bartenders, but we also became promoters, designers, photographers, and event creators. We understood the crowd, the music, the visuals, and the feeling needed to make a night work. We had the resources, the passion, and the opportunity — and we used all of it. That is where my real education started.
At first, I wanted to focus more on producing. DJing came later, almost as a way to open more doors into the music world. A close friend of mine, DJ Spinny, encouraged me to start practicing seriously. I bought Technics 1200 MK2 turntables at a time when they were rare, and we spent time learning, experimenting, and building our skills. I practiced everywhere I could — at home, after work, and even inside empty clubs after my bartending shifts. I would finish cleaning quickly, take out my CDs, and use the quiet club as my classroom. That is where I learned how to mix, how to listen, and how to understand the energy of a room before people even entered it.

My first real opportunity came at one of Finland’s biggest Hip-Hop nights. I was asked to play the opening hour. Technically, I was still raw, and I knew I had a lot to learn. But what caught people’s attention was my music selection. After my set, some of the experienced DJs told me honestly that if they owned a club, they would not book me yet. But then they said something that changed everything: they could not understand how I knew all those records. That moment stayed with me. They invited me back every Monday to play the opening hour. I was not getting paid in money — only drink tickets — but I took the opportunity seriously. Week by week, I improved. I learned how to match, how to build, how to control energy, and how to turn knowledge into performance. Soon, I was traveling with them to other cities, playing more nights, and slowly earning my place.
Because I understood music from a producer’s perspective, I learned quickly. BPM, rhythm, timing, structure, and energy made sense to me. I was not just playing songs. I was learning how to deliver them. In 2013, I placed 3rd in Finland’s NRJ DJ Championship. That moment opened major doors for me. It was not only about technique. It was about delivery, creativity, song selection, and the way I connected with the crowd. From there, my name started to grow across Finland. I played clubs, events, and major festivals including Blockfest, Summer Up, and Weekend Festival.
As my name became stronger, I saw the bigger picture. Because I already had experience in design, photography, promotion, events, music, and nightlife operations, I started building my own company and team. I worked with DJs, photographers, designers, and promoters, creating events in a more professional way. This was the period where I truly became A-ROK in the nightlife scene. I was not only performing anymore. I was booking DJs, creating concepts, managing the music direction, and shaping the energy of venues.
At one of Helsinki’s top clubs, I became responsible for deciding what kind of music worked in each area — from the main floor to the VIP section. I listened closely to DJs, studied the crowd, and learned how to choose the right sound for the right space. That is where my identity as a Music Director became clear. I never believed nightlife should be limited by one genre or one rule. I always looked at the full picture. Sometimes the right direction means breaking the pattern, taking risks, and trusting the crowd. People began to recognize that about me — I did not follow the usual formula, but I understood how to make the room work. For me, the music is the reason people come back. Lighting, design, and luxury are important, but the feeling of the night comes from the sound. The right song at the right moment can change everything.
In 2016, A-ROK left behind a strong career in Finland and moved to Dubai to start again from zero. His journey began at FIVE Palm Jumeirah, where he became Resident DJ and Music Director, contributing to the music direction, branding, event concepts, and atmosphere of venues such as Secret Room and Praia Dubai. After building his name, A-ROK moved into freelancing and began performing across Dubai’s nightlife and private event scene — from luxury clubs and lounges to villas, yachts, and exclusive celebrations. One of the most meaningful milestones was performing at Burj Khalifa, a place he once only knew from afar while growing up in Finland. Playing there for almost a year became a powerful reminder of how far the journey had come. Dubai became more than a new city. It became proof that A-ROK could rebuild, adapt, and create his sound on an international stage.
At FIVE, I started as a Resident DJ, but my role quickly became much bigger. I brought everything I had learned with me — music direction, branding, design, event planning, guest experience, and crowd understanding. I helped with music concepts, menus, branding ideas, DJ selection, and the overall sound direction of the venues. When Secret Room and Praia Dubai became part of my journey, I had the opportunity to help shape their music identity from the inside. I worked on lineups, themes, atmosphere, and the full flow of the night. I was not only there to play music. I was there to build a feeling.
Dubai gave me the chance to start again, prove myself again, and build my name in a completely new market. I connected with some of the city’s biggest DJs, performed across high-end venues, and developed my reputation as someone who can read a crowd, blend genres, and create a night that feels alive. Today, my sound moves across Hip-Hop, R&B, Afrobeat, Amapiano, Dancehall, Latin, Afro House, Tech House, French sounds, and global club music. But the genre is never the main point. The feeling is.
Whether I am playing for a packed nightclub, a festival, a beach venue, a private event, or a luxury brand experience, I bring the same mindset: understand the people, respect the moment, and create energy that stays with them. I do not just play music. I create moments.
